Babes In Boyland

bullyOkay, so I’m a little OUTRAGED right now. And, surprisingly, it has nothing to do with a certain former Disney princess’ recent performance at the VMA’s.

A friend of mine sent me an article from Forbes.com that mentioned the Workplace Bullying Institute. I thought it was a joke! But I wasn’t laughing for long.

There actually IS a Workplace Bullying Institute, and according to their 2010 survey, 35% of Americans reported being bullied at work.

Guess what battle of the sexes we won?

“Women make much nastier office bullies than men.” (Psychologist Dr. Gary Namie, co-founder of the Workplace Bullying Institute)

How sad is that?

They found that woman-on-woman harassment in the workplace is on the rise. Sabotaging each other and abusing authority to keep another woman down were among the highest reported abuses.

Are you freaking kidding me??!

The same study found that workplace bullying is 4 times more common than sexual harassment and racial discrimination. WTH?

So WHY aren’t we getting the salaries and positions we deserve in the workplace? Let’s just say that pointing the finger at our male counterparts is not the answer. According to new research, one of the major reasons we don’t see women being promoted is because women at higher levels do not help other women get ahead.

“Women at the top experience something called “value threat” which causes them to not want to help other women.”

If you’ve spent more than 10 minutes with me, you know I DESPISE these types of women.

If you ever feel the need to hold a co-worker down, march your bad self over to a mirror and take a look. Did you get where you are doing that? {The answer better be NO!}

You are here for a reason. And Angel, you’ve come to the right place. Repeat after me: I have a chance to change the world around me. Perfect! Now – Change it for the good!

Use your super powers, talent and heart to make this a better place for everyone – especially your comrades in heels!

Be a LEADER in your world. Be a ROLE MODEL for the leaders and direct reports around you. The world NEEDS more women like YOU! Bring it!

  2. Thank you, Melinda, for your part in bringing these stats to my attention! And for always going the extra mile to help a sister out rather than knock her down!

We LOVE to hear from YOU!
