Do You Have Freedom At Work?

Tangled Dachshund DogIn the spirit of Independence Day in the United States, I want you to think about what independence or freedom in your career means to you.

Is it financial freedom, so you make enough money to live the life you deserve?

Is it freedom from hating what you do 8 – 10 hours every day?

Is it freedom from the corporate grind?

Is it freedom to work when and where you want?

Is it freedom to have your dog as the only co-worker you see in a day?

Or, is it the freedom to say life first, work second?

What is freedom to you?

And, more importantly, do you have it?

These are not rhetorical questions. I want you to really think about it. Make a list, check it twice.

The clearer you are around what you want, the more likely you are to make it happen in your life.

Why can’t you control the way you work?

All things in life are negotiable. This is a tough one for women, but it’s the truth. And, the way you work is just as important to negotiate as what you get paid.

Many employers are making the shift…they don’t care when or where their employees gets the job done, as long as they get the results.

So keep in mind, your results must be stellar.

As a side note, one of the key drivers behind this shift is that more women in the workforce are creating a demand for more flexible hours.

We are creating the revolution.

And, as a bonus, studies show flexible hours usually increase both innovation and productivity. That’s a “W” all the way around.

So I want you to think of yourself as CEO of your life and career. YOU make “it” happen, “it” does not happen TO you.

Keep your know-how and skills refined and relevant in the marketplace. And keep your problem solving skills sharp.

You CAN create the career you love and life you deserve. High five!
