Is Procrastination Ever a Good Thing?

NowLaterDo you ever get annoyed with yourself for procrastinating?

You knew you had a deadline. You had plenty of time to work on it.

But there you are, at the last minute, scrambling to get it done.

It’s Crazy Town. Again.

Dang it!

Yet somehow, it always seems to get done. Doesn’t it?

Most of the time, it feels like procrastination leads to nothing but anxiety, disappointment, and hanging your head in shame.

I, however, like to think deadlines ignite energy. And the closer they get, the more energy I have. Procrastination doesn’t always mean I’m wasting my time checking out Facebook and Twitter, ahem, but instead I’m lighting my internal fire.

Some of my sister procrastinators actually even delay tasks deliberately because they like to work under pressure or feel challenged by approaching deadlines.

Here’s my theory… sometimes better decisions are made if you can give yourself some time to get your head around what you need to do. If you can relax your brain and keep your project circulating for a bit, more creative ideas or solutions sometimes flow.

Turns out procrastination isn’t such a bad thing, right? High five!

Now, feel free to go check Facebook, Twitter, Google+, or Pinterest… to get your creative juices flowing, of course. Be sure to share this important PSA with everyone you know!

P.S. ra·tio·nal·ize: to think about or describe something (such as bad behavior) in a way that explains it and makes it seem proper, more attractive, etc.
