You Are Your Inner Circle!

A famous business philosopher, Jim Rohn, once said, “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” Does this suggest that who you are and the level of success you achieve depends on the company you keep? YES! For realz! Your identity is confirmed by the people you choose to hang with. If you keep good company, it suggests good things about you. If you don’t keep good company…you see where I’m headed with this.

Take a minute to think of one wildly successful person. C’mon, play along. This can be someone you know, someone you aspire to know, or someone famous that you admire. What are the top three traits of that person that immediately come to mind? What are his or her values? Describe her lifestyle. Take two minutes to write a list of these things. Are these all things you seek for yourself?

Now, list the names of the five people you spend the most time with. And, this isn’t an exact science, so three or six names will work just fine too. Can you match the traits, values, and lifestyle description on your list to the names in your inner circle? Yes? Excellent news! The tricky part is when you cannot connect the dots with one or more names in your inner circle. I’m not suggesting you kick your peeps to the curb. As I said, this is not an exact science. But, it is so essential to surround yourself with successful people who have big dreams for their life. People who want to “hang” with winners. Those who will have high expectations of you and encourage you to aim high. You can hold each other accountable for greater levels of success, and cheer each other on along the way. You know what that sounds like? The Moxie Squad! That’s what I’m talkin’ about!

  1. I do agree, we are a reflection of our inner circle. Of course, sometimes folks have qualities that aren’t readily visible to the naked eye so you should always look closely before making a “keep or lose” decision (something I struggle with sometimes).

I’m a pretty busy woman and a bit of a hermit, so one of my litmus tests for sharing my time with people is how I feel after a couple of hours with them. If I feel more energized at the end of a visit than I did at the beginning, those are the folks I want around me.

FYI, YOU are an Energizer Bunny!

We LOVE to hear from YOU!
